The most noticeable difference is how QUIET the 10D is compared to my 20D. The shutter, of course; I've read all about that. The popping up of the flash is something I've not heard of. The 10D flash pops up so smoothly and QUIETLY. The 20D flash pops up with a loud THWACK. I was lucky and my used 10D is like brand new. It feels better built than the 20D. I feel the only thing the 20D has going for it is speed. It turns on instantly. It displays the playback of images instantly, compared to the 10D's images being blurry for a split second 'till it shows the actual image. This is not a very big deal to me. I mean it's milliseconds. Of course the 20D has the super fast machine gun shooting of 5 per second compared to 3 per second. The 20D is just faster and louder all around. Faster is good, Louder is bad. I am very happy with the 10D and I'm really wondering why I spent more than twice as much for the 20D. It's definitely not worth that much more to me. More pixels on the same size sensor. One big difference is the 20D underexposes EVERYTHING so you can fix it in Photoshop, which I find annoying. The 10D properly exposes the pictures so there's less to fix. I vote for the 10D! Okay, I just recieved my 10D and I am IMPRESSED! It just took me a really long time to make a decision and get the money together. So, I researched the heck out of it and chose the 20D. It's small. The memory card door is loose and rattles. I got the grip with it and it too has a loose rattley battery door. It also disconnects power to the camera if wiggled too hard. It takes great pics. So, just late last night, I ordered an EOS 10D from ebay for $650.00. The complete opposite of most people selling their 10D's to upgrade to the 20D! It is based on the fact the sales for D-SLR's have skyrocketed, forcing Canon to mass produce them quickly. In some ways it's very likely to have quality control suffer for that reason alone. I believe it has. Now, I've read all sorts of things that tell me the 20D is a bunch of hype and for people who just want the latest and greatest tech. I have even read many people liking their 10D's better. I may end up selling the 20D, or perhaps keeping them both. I will let you know my findings. Good luck on your quest for the ultimate affordable D-SLR! I just bought a 20D one week ago, after drooling over the 10D since it first came out.
